I don't think that Dawson is a better player.
Fact is that if we have to play with the second choices we have problems.

Re: Diop and Masuaku
I just had a look at the first ever thread on Diop to see if you had the foresight to realise it was a bad signing. Apparently not. What you actually said was, "he looks excellent from the Youtube clips, and seems perfect for English football. Big statement by the club to sign a young centre back for that sort of money, I'm shocked to be honest, but over chuffed."

One of the few sceptics about the signing was actually Alex V, and you made several posts slagging him off because of it and told everyone to ignore him.

You still don't get it, do you? Just because you or I or the manager or the club might want to get shot of a poor player, doesn't mean that there's buyers queuing up. Generally the only way you get rid of a player who's been a flop is by selling them for less than half what they cost (eg Haller, Felipe Anderson) or letting them run out their contract (eg Yarmalenko). You don't get to wave a magic wand and suddenly get your money back, which is what you seemed to think, and rightly got laughed at for.

Diop was so bad.

Masuaku just didn't try which is criminal.

Sell Diop and sack Masuaku.

Re: Diop and Masuaku
Can anyone clarify what foot is Diops strongest? Is he just on the left because we have no one else? Zouma looked lost on the left and I noticed Diop played a lot of passes with his left. If he is right footed you can understand the weakness, however if he is left footed that's shocking passing to say the least!

I'm not one for digging out our own players but my heart sinks as soon as I see Masuaku coming on. As for Diop, he's been going backwards since the infamous Man U game.

Re: Diop - can anybody tell me quite how he made it as a professional footballer?
I said we should try to sell him for £20mil last summer, when he still had a decent enough rep. That's still a LOSS, btw. And the general response was we'd be mad to sell him for that, which was the general response when he was being rated at £60mil after 1 good performance against Man Utd.

Thing is, I was bang on that we should try to sell him, as we'd be lucky to get £15mil for him now, given his performances this season when he's been in the team.

Better luck next time, doughnut.

See Nige, when you copy the WHOLE post, you'll get the context of what I said when we were debating it last time, which is what I was referring to in this thread, as you know. And the long and short of it all is, I've been saying for a couple of years we should try to get shot. I've been right all along.

As for another cb - depends who is available. Ogbonna is aging a bit so a long-term replacement could be worth a shot - it’s not worth getting in anyone at this stage though.

Capitol Man 12:31 Mon Jan 17
Re: Diop and Masuaku
360 got it. We do need to relax a bit - we are simply not going to win all of the games we expect to. Most seem to expect us to win everything. We have a fair crack against anyone with a full squad but the holes start to emerge pretty quickly with an injury or two.

Eerie Descent 12:22 Mon Jan 17
Re: Diop and Masuaku
You're lying, Nagel. That's a bit sad.

I said we should sell him for whatever we could get, as we'd be able to replace him with that money, whatever it was. You disagreed. Fact we signed Dawson for £2mil puts paid to that.

gph 12:16 Mon Jan 17
Re: Diop and Masuaku
Diop has always, even when he was a "monster", worked better as the CB second in seniority. He looks unnerved playing alongside Dawson, who, I guess, has to concentrate on his own game in order to play well (or halfway there in some games).

I always thought Tony Gale was a better player when Alvin Martin was on the pitch.

Re: Diop and Masuaku
People are fucking crazy on here. WE DONT HAVE ANOTHER SET OF CB's for fuck sake!

It is what it is. We had 4 the start of the season, 2 senior, one cost a lot of dough and the 2 best ones have been injured.

If we actually had better more experienced CB's they'd be fucking playing.

You cant keep saying players are gash when we have no replacements and were never mean to be 1st choice PL players for us this season anyway.

The same second choice CB's have played 3 games in 7 days. Of course they are mentally fucked. They are not mean to be playing that much. We've played like 5 times and Leeds have played twice!

Stop blaming Arthur for fucking everything as well, Its getting ridiculous. He came on, we scored. We needed to mix it up. Its not because Vlasic of Fornals are particular bad. Its because their defenders worked us out and we just need to mix it up to see what happens.

We lost because we are tired and dont have our 1st choice defence available. So we gave away sloppy goals. Its that simple. And no, we dont spend anything like anyone else has in the top 6 or so. So yes, we are reaching and that's the reality.

And no we cant and I'm not sure I want another average CB to come in to replace our own average CB's and just have a pile up of CB's on stupid money because we panicked. Are other CB's in this division that good? Tarkowski hasn't stopped Burnley shipping goals either as he?

Its a team sport. Team is battling through injuries and tiredness.
Leeds had 2 shots at us with 2 different teams in a week and worked us out a bit as we played the same team pretty much.

It really is what it is..

I don't think I'm lying Eerie son, although maybe it was £20m, not £25m. Still a laughable amount given that he'd just had a woeful season, but then you still seem to think that a compliment from another manager on one performance adds millions to a player's value.

Any team going for top 6 with Diop, Masuaku, Yarmolenko and no actually striker in the squad is HAVING A FUCKING LAUGH.

We over achieve against the dire situation above time and again, today was not one of those times.

Let’s hope it doesn’t become form as we bullshit our way through another window.
